Gary York is a Tampa, Florida–based corrections officer, former U.S. Army Military Police Staff Sergeant, and award-winning investigator with decades of frontline experience in military and correctional service.
 

He served in the U.S. Army from 1978–1987, earning the Army Commendation Medal and Soldier of the Quarter Award, before moving into corrections, where he worked as a correctional officer, probation officer, and senior prison inspector. He also served on an Inspector General Drug Interdiction Team, investigating contraband and corruption inside state prisons.
 

York is the author of Corruption Behind Bars, Inside The Inner Circle, and The Toughest Job: Correctional Officers USA, all based on real cases of prison crime, misconduct, and systemic issues. His work has earned multiple leadership and merit awards and has been featured on Correction1.
 

His upcoming book, The Tainted Shield (November 2026), continues his hard-hitting look at corruption, accountability, and life inside the corrections system.
